Epitaph Help

Choosing the words to be engraved on your loved ones’ monument or marker is a daunting task. Many people struggle with this. Know that developing these words is one of the last decisions to be made and you can absolutely take your time.

Helpful Tips

Epitaphs are as varied as the loved ones that they represent.  Some are light-hearted, funny, eccentric, devoutly religious, sports-related or maybe a mix of many of these attributes.

Sometimes the epitaph is a message for those left behind or is simply about the deceased person.  For example, “Beloved husband, father and brother.”  It may include a phrase such as “Always in our hearts.”

What is key to remember is that epitaphs are designed to reflect the true spirit of the loved one. This results in a unique, personal marker.

Perhaps a verse or a psalm is a good choice or a quotation they are recalled restating that was important to them.  It could be about their spot in history, or what they gave to the community.

The length of an epitaph will vary, but in most cases, it should be as short as possible. The amount of space you have available will depend upon the size of the memorial stone chosen.
